The latest statistics from the European Payments Council (EPC), designers of the single euro payments area (SEPA) instant credit transfer (SCT Inst) scheme, show that 1,043 payment service providers (PSPs) from 13 countries, 25% of the total in Europe, have so far registered as participants.
EBA Clearing’s SCT Inst-compliant instant payment system RT1 has processed more than half a million transactions in Europe, worth EUR300m, with 95% of them taking three seconds to clear.
To create awareness about instant payments (IP), the European Central Bank (ECB) is today hosting a one-day conference at its Frankfurt offices in Germany and running a #TIPSapp challenge inviting vendors to present mobile apps for the initiation and processing of IP on its Target Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) SCT Inst-compliant platform.
All banks operating in Estonia should introduce instant payments (IP) within a year, said central banker Madis Müller, the Bank of Estonia’s (Eesti Pank) deputy governor.
